Cato Institute hosted a lively discussion of the Common Core State Standards this week, and the video of that event is now up on their website. There's some good back-and-forth. Panelists were Neal McCluskey from Cato and Lindsey Burke from Heritage (both arguing against the idea of national standards), as well as Sandy Boyd from Achieve and Fordham's own Mike Petrilli (both supporting the idea). You can hear Mike beginning around 33:30. Here's a Petrilli highlight: ?There is no one thing that's going to fix everything in American education, though I do believe, and I think the evidence shows, that there's a good chance that this is going to help us make more progress and make progress faster than we would if we kept on our current path of 50 state standards.?
