Our little school district just got word that our share of the RttT pie (nearly $700 million in NY) will be $55,000 per year for?four years. ?Wow!
But here's the challenge?and it is real and it applies just as much to Cory Booker with his $100 million as to us:?How do we spend it?
Please send in your suggestions (comments below).? Winners?who will receive praise from many quarters?will be chosen based on how closely their suggestion resembles the decision of my district and?will be announced sometime later this month, I believe.
Here are the contest requirements, based on FAQ #16 (Scope of Work) from New York State Education Department, advising that?the?money must be used?to fulfill?one or more of the four ?assurances:?
1. Adopting internationally-benchmarked standards and assessments that prepare students for success in college and the workplace;
2. Building instructional data systems that measure student success and inform teachers and principals how they can improve their practices;
3.? Recruiting, developing, retaining, and rewarding effective teachers and principals; and
4.? Turning around the persistently lowest-achieving schools.
What?will our district do with $55,000 per year for four years?
