Nevermind the announcement of winners, Race to the Top is making headlines (and reports) regardless. Otherwise, it's a somber news day. Layoffs and school firings abound. Food is a scarcity for some, and college kids are encouraged to use food stamps. Wall Street Journal posted negative reactions to Checker's Saturday school piece, and Nancy Folbre sees the demise of state universities.
