I like much that appears in the New York Review of Books, but when that publication has Diane Ravitch review Waiting for ?Superman,? I wonder. Perhaps its editors might ask Bill Gates to evaluate the next iPhone? The NYRB pulled a similar stunt in May, when it published an E.D. Hirsch, Jr. review of Ravitch's latest book?and never revealed that Hirsch had in fact blurbed the thing! In his dust-jacket endorsement, Hirsch wrote, ?No citizen can afford to ignore this brave book by our premier historian of education.??But every citizen?can afford to ignore his review of it.
