The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation this week announced the creation of two annual $25,000 prizes to be awarded to individuals who have made extraordinary accomplishments in education scholarship and reform. The Foundation is seeking nominations for these new prizes, which will first be awarded in January 2003. A prize committee will choose the winners. The Fordham Prize for Distinguished Education Scholarship will be awarded to a scholar who has made major contributions to education reform via research, analysis, and successful engagement in the war of ideas. The Fordham Prize for Education Valor will be awarded to a leader who has made major contributions to education reform via noteworthy accomplishment at the national, state, local and/or school levels. "The Fordham Prizes will be the first to focus, laser-like, on educational excellence and out-of-the-box accomplishment in this field," explained Chester E. Finn, Jr., president of the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation. The deadline for nominations is May 31, 2002. Further information and details about the prizes, including criteria and procedures, are available on the web at www.edexcellence.net.
