Good article from Ed Week's Aarons on MN's attempt to improve charter authorizing.
Takeaway: Because of a new law, many districts may get out of the business of authorizing.
I'm fine with that. Most districts don't like authorizing, often because they don't like charters. But more importantly, districts weren't designed to do this work. They were designed to own and operate schools, not monitor them from afar.
As long as all charter applicants can find alternative authorizers, this policy change in MN may be ideal.
