Well it seems there's some breaking?news out of New York this afternoon. The panel convened to review Cathie Black's qualifications to become chancellor of New York City schools (and advise Commissioner David Steiner on the matter) has apparently voted to deny granting Black a waiver, according to Gotham Schools. Black lacks the specific credentials needed under NY state law to take the post, and would need a waiver.
Coincidentally, Checker Finn wrote about the whole credentials issue in today's NY Post.
There's also?this NY Times piece this afternoon, reporting that Steiner will reject Black's appointment unless an educator is installed to help her run the system (attributed to a person familiar with the discussions).
An interesting (and apparently evolving) situation indeed. Curious to see how this all shakes out.
