For Immediate Release
April 1, 2018
We've received countless calls asking why Mike Petrilli's Twitter account (@michaelpetrilli) and, by extension, Fordham’s institutional account (@educationgadfly) have been suspended. Dozen of fellow Twitter users, including @caitlinzemma, @PoliticsK12, and @rickhess99, tweeted concern for Mike’s wellbeing after going twenty-fours hours without being tagged in one of his posts.
The social media platform has informed us that the accounts were suspended along with about 1,000 other accounts that were “potentially connected to a propaganda effort by a Russian government–linked organization known as the Internet Research Agency.” Though we certainly understand how Mike's account could have been misidentified as Russian-linked—he has, for example, dressed up as both Vladimir Putin and Hillary Clinton's e-mails for Halloween—we're pretty sure there isn't an actual link between his Twitter account and the Kremlin. We therefore expect to resolve the issue in a few days.
In the meantime, you can find Fordham's content via our @educationgldfly account and Mike's temporary account, @comradepetrilli.
