You?may have already seen this, but there was a bit of a development earlier this week in the ongoing fight over New York City releasing the names and rankings of thousands of teachers. On Monday, a Manhattan judge ruled that the city can indeed publicly release the names/rankings of the teachers. The union has been fighting to keep names confidential. Coverage of it here and here as well. Union (United Federation of Teachers)?is appealing the ruling, so names will continue to be withheld until there's a final decision, according to the NY Times story. At issue are rankings that grade about 12,000 NYC public school teachers on how much progress their students made on standardized tests. Several news organizations have requested access to the data?and?the city was going to give it to them, but the union stepped in and the fight began. Looks like we'll continue waiting for a final outcome in this interesting saga?..
