Michelle Rhee's recent firing of Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty and the entire workforce of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has not gone without notice. Predictably, the usual suspects have found much about which to complain. "Why is the schools chancellor dismissing Metro employees? Why is she even allowed to do that?" asked Transport Workers Union spokesperson Rider Haggard. Well. She is, too, allowed to do so, Ms. Haggard, because she has been charged with improving the District's schools, and if that means firing everyone in the city, so be it--Rhee can do no wrong, and we support her! As for the mayor's dismissal, if Rhee is behind it, then good riddance, Fenty! On the NewsEver with Whim Starer, John Marrow-bone said of the situation, "Rhee understands reform. She knows what kids need. One thing kids don't need, it seems, is a mayor. It took a Michelle Rhee to descend from the sky and cast sunlight unto darkness, to open our eyes to all that is right and good. I love her." As for us, some now hitchhike to work, some ride their bikes, others walk. Exercise is good. Kids need it, too.
