On a number of occasions, I've written about what I call ?sector agnosticism? in urban education. It's a simple concept: we shouldn't care what sector a school belongs to (traditional public, charter public, or private); instead, we should judge schools based on their quality.
There's been movement in this direction in Cleveland, Detroit, Denver, New York City, and Washington DC, and now there's a fledgling initiative in Philadelphia.
A number of philanthropists are hoping to raise $100 million to support the city's highest performing schools, regardless of who runs them. It appears that few details have been worked out, but the ?informational breakfast? held yesterday attracted some of the city's biggest education players.
Sector agnosticism is catching on.
