Yesterday, Colorado State Senator Mike Johnston unveiled his much-anticipated teacher reform legislation.
Among other things, the bill would require annual teacher and principal evaluations. Student growth would comprise 50 percent of teacher evaluations and two-thirds of principal evaluations.??Tenure would be earned after three consecutive years of effectiveness, and tenured teachers with two poor evaluations would go on probation.
CO suffered in the teachers section of RTT--scoring third from the bottom among finalists. In addition to helping reform the teaching profession, this legislation would help CO's chances in round two.
