In case you haven't heard, there's a pretty?big tussle going on in NYC over whether education officials there should be allowed to publicly release the performance info/ratings of the city's teachers. According to reports, the United Federation of?Teachers?is filing a lawsuit to block the city Education Department from releasing the data, which rates city teachers based on how much progress students made on state exams. The union apparently argues that the measuring system is too flawed to release the teachers' names publicly.
As you?can well imagine, there's plenty of coverage of this hot topic. Gotham Schools has been?all over it. And you can read about it the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, NY Daily News, NY1 News, Ed Week and more.
What do you think? Should the public be able to see this data about NYC teachers or not?
