- In case you missed it, Fordham’s own Aaron Churchill published an op-ed in Cleveland.com on Friday, laying out the troublesome findings of our recent Lost Einsteins report and describing how continued failure to serve our early high achievers will prove problematic in the future. (Cleveland.com, 10/8/21)
- Speaking of Cleveland, outgoing mayor Frank Jackson gave his last State of the City address last week. In it, he laid out a number of successes upon which he wants to hang his hat. High on his list: improvements in CMSD, of which he has been the boss during his long tenure. “Prior to the pandemic, our school district ranked in the top 15 percent in Ohio for improvements in K to 3,” he told the crowd. “It also ranked in the top 4 percent for improvement in the state in reading.” There you have it. - The Greater Dayton School, a private school being launched with great fanfare in the Gem City specifically for underserved and under-resourced students, cleared another hurdle in its efforts to build a “fancy” new building in the Deeds Point area of the city. (Dayton Daily News, 10/7/21)
- Lots of similarities in this story about KIPP Columbus’ efforts to expand here in the capital city and make room for its rather enormous waiting list of students. Except KIPP is a charter school, so the rhetoric sounds a little bit different from the foregoing piece. But only a little. (Columbus Dispatch, 10/11/21)
