- Not much to report on, really, but let’s get to it. “From the teacher lens, it’s being able to utilize these media choices to create a relevant learning experience in our classrooms,” says an elementary art teacher in North Olmsted City Schools of the awesome “technology” being provided to students there. “The second is being able to give children the modern education they deserve in our 21st century landscape.” What is he talking about? Lego kits, memes created on Google Slides, and something called Plickers (which I had never heard of but, upon some digging, appears to be prepared animated online flashcards…which are also printable). How very modern. (Cleveland.com, 10/26/22)
- You know who really knew about technology? That guy who used to run Columbus City Schools’ radio station, WCBE-FM. Unfortunately, he ran it into financial ruin back in 2019 to the tune of (see what I did there?) 1.5 million dollars. Since then, the district has poured hundreds of thousands more into it to keep it running. No more! As of this week, WCBE ditched the pricey NPR news shows in favor of local music, district sports coverage, and *gasp* student-created content all for a fraction of the previous cost. (Although, to be fair, this piece does not seem at all concerned about how much the new stuff may cost.) Besides that inconsequential little item, the only remaining question I have is why didn’t anyone think to take this obvious path sooner? (Columbus Dispatch, 10/27/22)
