- The Ohio Attendance Taskforce, convened earlier this year to address the issue of sky-high chronic student absenteeism in the state, released its report on Friday. The Dayton Daily News covered the report, including a mention of the local district and charter school leaders who were part of the taskforce, and its broad recommendations. (Dayton Daily News, 10/27/23) You can read the full report for yourselves here. There was also a related event held on Friday at Columbus Preparatory School for Girls, hosted by the Columbus Crew as part of their participation in the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network.
- Speaking of sports (were we, really?), I know you will all be as happy as I am that the Marysville Exempted Village School District community rallied on Friday evening so that the varsity football team could play its game as scheduled, even though every academic aspect of the entire district was shut down with less than 12 hours’ notice to families. It was an away game too which means that both coaching and transportation staff (plus band and cheerleaders) all pulled together to make this happen against all odds. The Monarchs got their clocks cleaned by the Olentangy Berlin Bears, which is sad, but I’m sure those kids learned a lesson from it all. Which is good, because it was the only one they learned all day. (MaxPreps, 10/27/23)
