- Confirmed at last: College Credit Plus does save some kids money on college! That is not really the point of this piece—looking at two hugely popular dual enrollment programs at Sinclair Community College in Dayton—but it jumped out at me because that fact is usually just assumed to be correct in stories like this. I also like the sound of the Tech Prep program, which is aimed more at high schoolers looking for a fast track to in-demand jobs than into a four-year college. It seems to be even more popular than CCP. Nice! (Dayton Daily News, 11/8/19)
- Maybe I don’t feel so bad about that high school redesign group after all. Remember, we talked about it last week and it seemed a little…mousy? This piece from the Salem News discusses one of the group’s invited participants, the superintendent of Leetonia Exempted Village Schools in Columbiana County. And it all sounds pretty good; especially his focus on “manufacturing education”. That would qualify as a “reinvention”, wouldn’t it? Let me just look up Leetonia High School’s most recent report card real quick and… Uh oh. (Salem News, 11/9/19)
