Judging by the commentary collected from several traditional district education stakeholders, it seems that everyone’s got an opinion on our proposals to modernize those very districts. - Not sure why these national (international?) media folks chose to pick on our state over others, but here is their coverage of (certain) Ohio schools’ efforts to bring English learner students up to full proficiency in their second language, with an emphasis on the difference between “playground English” and “test English”. - “We are always looking for opportunities and resources to support student achievement.” So says the curriculum director for Bucyrus City Schools, by way of explaining why he’s so happy about a new tutoring program provided by the state to help middle school students who are at least three grade levels behind in ELA and/or math due to the pandemic. No, this is not a story from 2021. The good news: It seems that even a handful of virtual tutoring sessions have already done more to help these students gain knowledge and skills than the three years of actual schooling they have experienced since we first heard of SARS-CoV-2.
