- Here’s a great piece interviewing seven high school seniors in the Dayton area—including three who attend the DECA charter school—looking at their next steps after graduation. It’s a nice array of the various options available to today’s grads, including two- and four-year college, the workforce, and the military. But y’all know what I’m going to add, right? These folks who are forgoing college are doing so with the full knowledge that they could go if they wanted to (and may indeed go later on after exploring other options). They have both college and non-college options, which is the way it’s supposed to be and makes all of those non-college choices more palatable to me. (Dayton Daily News, 12/11/22)
- In case you didn’t know it, this year marks the silver jubilee of mayoral control of schools in Cleveland. You’ll have to click on this piece from Signal Cleveland to see their snazzy timeline of how it all went down, but I’ll give you a spoiler alert that there is no actual jubilation in any part of it. (Signal Cleveland, 12/12/22)
- There’s a timeline in this piece also—updating us on the state-mandated process for establishing a new charter school (as opposed to the version that the Southeast Ohio’s Classical Academy’s board chair mentioned last week)—but there is a tiny bit more jubilation in this piece than in the above. (Athens Messenger, 12/10/22)
