- The superintendent of LaBrae Local Schools (nope, me neither) has a list of interesting questions that he says “Ohio citizens should ponder earnestly” with regard to the possibility of a universal voucher (a.k.a. backpack funding) as proposed in the state. Since this is an opinion piece, I won’t tell you where he comes down. But I will suggest that any Ohio citizen who really ponders those questions will also consider their corollaries—unstated here, but pretty obvious if I do say so myself. (Vindy.com, 1/29/23)
- Today is the start of Catholic Schools Week and St. Jerome School is simultaneously celebrating its 100th anniversary of serving students in Cleveland. Kudos to the thriving and growing school. I assume the LaBrae supe was observing Catholic Schools Week in his own way by penning that op-ed, but I am hopeful that he would accept that 10-year-old Zion Booker’s family are among the many Ohio citizens who have already earnestly pondered that list of leading questions he proposed regarding vouchers and private schools and already come to a different answer than himself. “My mom just wanted me to get better in school,” Zion told News 5. “It’s working really well and the staff are really nice.” But maybe not.
