- Slim pickings for us among the education news today. But at least this piece includes some quotes from our own Chad Aldis. The topic is the state’s new funding pool for quality charter schools and whether the text of the law that created the fund includes a loophole which allows “non-quality” schools to receive funding too. (Cleveland Plain Dealer, 1/5/20)
- In a similar vein, here’s a story which lauds the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City Schools for its efforts at expanding AP participation. It is one of only 10 districts in Ohio to earn a spot on the College Board’s 10th annual AP District Honor Roll. I am at a loss as to how to reconcile this positive-seeming award with the district’s perennially poor report cards. Since the award is given for a percentage increase, I am assuming it has something to do with how few students formed the baseline. But I could be wrong. Perhaps it’s just a bug and not a feature of the award system. (Heights Observer, 1/3/20)
