- An opinion piece posted in the Dispatch late on Friday is advertised as a response to the previous pro-voucher op-ed which appeared on those pages earlier. To me, it reads like unsupported—and unsupportable—family-unfriendly, voucher-loathing blather workshopped in an echo chamber. YMMV, of course. (Columbus Dispatch, 2/11/22)
- Facilities follies are ramping up again in Columbus City Schools. The shiny showpiece here is the possibility of spending hundreds of millions of dollars on up to 19 new facilities, despite the fact that the district is shrinking and already has too many buildings, with the note that “this is not about closing buildings” even though it has to be. It feels too early for the inevitable dooming and glooming, but physical danger to kids is already trotted out as a reason to close old buildings and get new ones and the fear of charter schools lurks behind discussion of not selling off closed buildings. Quite a conundrum, I reckon. (Columbus Dispatch, 2/14/22)
