- Fordham’s Mike Petrilli had the best microphone, and the best take, when he appeared on WOSU’s All Sides with Anna Staver yesterday. The question: Do grades do more harm than good in assessing academic performance? Mike’s answer: Heck no. And here’s why. (WOSU-FM, Columbus, 2/1/24)
- Also on the Ohio airwaves yesterday: Cincinnati Edition was sort of talking about vouchers. I say it that way because the advertised topic was HB 339, which proposes an Education Savings Account plan for families attending non-chartered, non-public schools (a.k.a. 508 or 08 schools). Guest Greg Lawson of the Buckeye Institute clearly explained that these are two different things, but the others were eager to discuss vouchers, EdChoice and otherwise, despite all that. - The elected school board of Akron City Schools voted a third time this week on a contract to provide free tutoring for district students who are academically behind. This unanimous downvote cancelled the two previous affirmative votes on the same thing, so no tutoring will be provided. Not a big surprise really, I guess. But despite getting the result they wanted, the local teachers union will likely continue their various lawsuits against the district which were filed as a result of efforts to enact this plan.
