- School transportation in Sylvania, a suburb of Toledo, is getting complicated for next year and some folks are apparently riled. At issue in this piece is the possible “slashing” (nice word, good for a few clicks I’m sure) of routes which serve Sylvania-resident students who attend private schools outside the ‘burb and the reasons therefor. (Toledo Blade, 2/22/19)
- You will recall that the CEO of Lorain City Schools announced late last week that he would be requiring teachers at the high school to reapply for their jobs for the 2019-20 school year and all would be evaluated prior to being rehired…or not being rehired as the case may be. In true Lorain fashion (or maybe just playground rules), the president of Lorain City Schools’ elected board found a novel way to respond in kind to what he believes the CEO is trying to achieve. Honestly, I think this sort of happens already, doesn’t it? (Elyria Chronicle, 2/23/19) Given the reaction above, it is perhaps not surprising that the rumor mill is working overtime in Lorain (The high school will become a charter! TFA is coming!!). There is maybe even a little bit of news in this latest coverage from the august Chronicle. (Elyria Chronicle, 2/24/19)
- Editors in Youngstown opined this weekend on their “unwavering support” for the district’s Academic Distress Commission and provided a little history lesson on the district’s travails to explain that support. (Youngstown Vindicator, 2/24/19)
