- As budget season grinds on, hearings continue on all things HB 166. This includes things that are not in the budget bill but might eventually be. To wit: The “dueling” proposals on graduation requirements that we have mentioned a couple of times in these clips. Our own Chad Aldis was among the witnesses testifying this week in favor of one proposal or the other. (Gongwer Ohio, 5/22/19)
- Here is a great story, dateline Lorain, about a student at Horizon Science Academy who has taken her talent for singing and dancing from Northeast Ohio to cities across the country and even in Canada. All thanks to the extensive network of Concept Schools and their commitment to cultivating the arts in their charter schools (had to mention that since the MJ didn’t) and giving students wide opportunities to travel and perform. Nice! (The Morning Journal, 5/23/19)
- New-ish Marion supe Ron Iarussi is hiring a bunch of new administrators AND cutting the district’s contract with the local ESC by $500K (how much?!) in order to provide needed supports for principals and for kids. Hope nobody sues! (Marion Star, 5/23/19)
