- A little closer to the ground, here’s a story about a nonprofit organization providing laptops—and internet access and software and educational coaches—for low-income families in a number of states including Ohio. The main point is that students who are not yet in Kindergarten need that experience with technology to help them be ready—and that’s the program’s raison d'être—but it has had some larger effects too. We learn about the Massey family here in Columbus, who were able to boost the amount of device time available for the whole family with the new laptop donation for the youngest child, enabling everyone to participate in summer learning. It also gave the family the capacity and confidence to opt for fully online learning for next school year for all of the children. Which seems like just what Mom wanted all along.
