- Be cool, man! The boss is in town. Fordham President Mike Petrilli had an op-ed in my hometown newspaper over the weekend, talking about the relative value of a postsecondary degree or credential for folks living in various cities across Ohio. There is quite the disparity. (Columbus Dispatch, 9/19/20)
- Speaking of op-eds, the state’s Catholic school superintendents—yes, all of them—penned a commentary for the Cincinnati Enquirer this weekend, taking the paper to task for its recent wayward analysis of voucher student performance. Not only was the comparison more like an “apples to blueberries” mismatch (as someone from this organization also pointed out), it was also unnecessarily divisive in nature, they said. Instead of creating enemies where there are none, the supes suggest Catholic schools and public schools are partners, not competitors. The sooner we all get on that page, the better probably. (Cincinnati Enquirer, 9/18/20)
- Here’s a story about families who say they probably won’t let their kids return to in-person schooling this year, even
whenif their districts change plans and adopt in-person or hybrid models. This all makes sense to me, and the flexibility for parents and kids seems cool, although the implication seems to be that flexibility granted today may result in districts having to consider offering a fully-remote option farther into the future than they perhaps had hoped for. Perhaps that explains why a bunch of families across the state—as noted a couple of times in these clips before—are being forced to stick to remote learning whether their district changes plans or not.
