Changing the game in Parma
Parma City Schools is looking for a few good students. They are hosting “Shadow Days” aiming to bring eighth graders not currently enrolled in the district into their high school next fall. They are particularly targeting private and charter school students—going so far as to send flyers to the latter—and seem to have high hopes for their chances.
In-demand charter school
Speaking of schools kids are clamoring to attend, Fordham’s latest charter school profile in the Pathway to Success series was released this week. Arts & College Preparatory Academy in Columbus (ACPA) has done fantastic work to create an environment where students can thrive and grow through arts and academics. And the school itself is growing as well. Kudos to ACPA staff, students, and families!
The view from Cincinnati
A crowded field of candidates is running for school board seats in Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), and the race is hotly contested. The Enquirer recently posed this question to all the candidates: “What is the ideal relationship between CPS and charter schools?” The answers are varied and interesting.
The view from Michigan
Nina Rees, CEO of NAPCS, and Dan Quisenberry, president of the Michigan Association of Public School Academies, recently published a joint editorial in the Detroit News blasting Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer for vetoing part of a per-pupil funding increase passed by the state legislature. The part she vetoed? Money for charter school students.
