Rising enrollment
Despite some efforts to cast negative light, a TV news report on burgeoning enrollment in Indiana charter schools is mostly positive. Why? Because it focuses on successful students, happy families, and solid academic data. Hard to beat that.
First classes
Nearly all the seats in West Virginia Academy’s 2022-2023 classes are full many months before the state’s first ever charter school is scheduled to open. Staffing is almost complete as well. Officials seem excited to welcome—and work closely with—students and families. Hopefully the busy summer of preparation will go quickly.
Compromise
Legislators in Missouri are celebrating—along with charter and traditional district school leaders—a compromise school funding bill now headed to the governor’s desk. It is intended to boost funding to close the longstanding gap between charter and district students. An excellent outcome. Kudos to all.
Facilities funding success
Idaho’s innovative Public Charter Schools Facilities Program, which provides “credit enhancement” to charters to allow for easier and cheaper access to construction and renovation funding, was enacted in 2019. The 74 has an in-depth look at how five charter schools in the Gem State used the program to create and upgrade their buildings for millions less than previous options would have allowed.
